Mr. Ernenwein and his family have lived in Orange County for generations. After graduating from Newburgh Free Academy, Paul accepted a job with State Senator Richard Schermerhorn and the Senate Committee on Corporations. He moved to Albany to work in the Senator’s office and attend the University at Albany.
While in Albany, Paul also held positions with Assemblyman Zimmer and the Assembly Committee on Local Governments, as well as Assemblyman Gottfried and the Assembly Committee on Health. In 1991, he graduated from the University at Albany and assisted in managing Assemblyman Zimmer’s District Office in Syracuse, NY.
The following year, Paul attended the Western New England School of Law, working for the Massachusetts Attorney General’s office in Springfield and a local law firm specializing in commercial litigation. He graduated with a Juris Doctorate in 1995 and accepted a position as a Bronx County Assistant District Attorney, where he indicted homicides in the Bronx County Grand Jury and prosecuted over forty criminal defendants to verdict.
In 2000, Paul returned home to the Hudson Valley, accepting a position with a large personal injury plaintiff firm. Over the next two years, he handled hundreds of cases representing clients injured in accidents.
In 2002, Paul joined the law firm Catania Mahon & Rider, PLLC, embarking on a new chapter of his career as a trial attorney. His diverse caseload encompasses representing both individuals who have been injured or arrested, as well as defending medical professionals, educational institutions, and municipalities. Paul’s practice specializes in complex litigation, including medical malpractice, legal malpractice, catastrophic injuries, and criminal defense.
Upon returning home to the Hudson Valley, Paul dedicated himself to giving back to the community. He has served on the boards of numerous philanthropic and not-for-profit organizations, including The Cornerstone Family Health Center, Vision Hudson Valley (formerly the Orange County Citizens Foundation), The Newburgh Rotary, Cub’s Place, The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Newburgh 247, The Newburgh Historical Society, the Children’s Country Day School, ADAPT of the Hudson Valley, the Orange County Chamber of Commerce, Habitat for Humanity, and has received the Tribute and Recognition Impact Award and the Power of a Man Impact Award.
Paul lives in Newburgh with his wife and two beautiful children. He takes great pride in being responsive to his clients and completely dedicated to each one. Paul has wholeheartedly invested himself in serving his community – from supporting local institutions and families to championing parks, open spaces, and the cultural fabric of Orange County.
Recently, he was honored to play a role as the Honorary Host for Independent Living, working with Montefiore St. Luke’s Hospital to raise resources and celebrate their 150th anniversary. Paul is deeply committed to providing assistance and representation to individuals and families in need throughout the community.
