Sugar Loaf, N.Y. – April 9, 2014 – The Orange County Citizens Foundation, in conjunction with the D&H Conservancy, is hosting a ribbon cutting and trail hike on Saturday, May 10 at 10 a.m. to celebrate the addition of another 1.25 miles to the D&H Towpath Trail.

The Orange County Citizens Foundation’s Pathways Committee promotes non-motorized transportation and pedestrian connections in Orange County through awareness, endorsement, and development of trails and sidewalks. The Committee collaborates actively with elected officials, regulatory bodies, interested individuals, and community groups to promote innovation in establishing non-motorized transportation options.

The D&H Conservancy has been collaborating with the Orange County Citizens Foundation Pathways Committee to continue developments to the D&H Towpath Trail, which is now approximately three miles long.

“It has been great to add our support to the D&H Conservancy to make the D&H Towpath Trail a reality,” said Citizens Foundation President Nancy Proyect. “Trails are great assets to communities and I am sure the residents of the Town of Deerpark, as well as Orange County residents and tourists alike, will benefit greatly.”

Following the ceremonial ribbon cutting, attendees are encouraged to join in on an easy-level hike to unveil the new 1.25 miles of trail added to the D&H Towpath Trail. Those attending the ribbon cutting and hike can park at 12 County Route 61/Otisville Rd., Otisville, NY.
