Congressional candidates face off in special District 18 debate

Sugar Loaf, N.Y. – Sept. 3, 2014 – Dr. Nan Hayworth, R-Bedford, will debate US Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney, D-Cold Spring, during a special congressional debate Monday, Oct. 6 at Middletown High School, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The candidate forum – presented by the Orange County Citizens Foundation in cooperation with the Orange County Arts Council, Orange County Chamber of Commerce, Orange County Land Trust, and Orange County Partnership – will address national issues affecting residents and businesses, including:
- Veteran affairs
- Immigration
- Arts funding
- Healthcare
- Education
- Agriculture
- Infrastructure
- Economic development
- Government efficiency
- Open space and land preservation
- Climate change
Maloney has endorsements from the Democrats and Working Family parties. Hayworth is backed by the Republican, Conservative, and Independence parties.
“It’s such a wonderful opportunity for the residents of Orange County to get to know their congressional candidates, and for them to hear an informed, lively political debate on the most important issues of our day,” said Nancy Proyect, president of the Orange County Citizens Foundation.
Each candidate will be allowed opening and closing statements and will respond to questions posed by a moderator in a Q&A format. Questions have been selected by representatives from each of the host organizations based on issues of importance to their constituents. Questions will not be taken from the audience. This event is FREE & OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
