Annual Meeting To Include Two Exclusive Exhibit Previews

  • Aug 20, 2015

The Orange County Citizens Foundation’s 44th Annual Meeting & Cocktails on the Seligmann Lawn on Thursday, Sept. 10 at 5 p.m. will feature exclusive previews of two new exhibits, both rooted in surrealism.

The first exhibit, The Eventual Outcome of an Instant, features a series of site-specific sculptures by Artist Sue Wrbican (suewrbican.com). Wrbican drew inspiration from Surrealist landscapes by Kay Sage, a close friend of Kurt Seligmann and his wife, Arlette. The sculptures, constructed using wood salvaged from a fire at a local lumberyard, draw Sage’s paintings into three dimensions, giving new insight into the experience of her work, with a fourth dimension implied through the lens of time and history.

The second preview will be an exhibition of Kurt Seligmann’s own paintings, prints, and papers from the permanent collection of the Seligmann Center at the Citizens Foundation. The works span from the artist’s early career in Paris to his finals years spent in Sugar Loaf, and will be on view in Seligmann’s former painting studio. There will also be a trailer screening for Magnetic Mountain, the Seligmann Center’s documentary on Kurt Seligmann (still in production). The documentary is being directed by Brandon Knopp and Seligmann Center Artist-in-residence Olivia Baldwin, with cinematography by Robert Jakubik.

Guests are also invited to explore the Seligmann grounds and facilities, including the Seligmann home, onsite sculpture displays, and the Citizens Foundation’s Robert Fagan Art Library. The presentation of this year’s Seligmann Award will honor the late Anne M. Coon, a dedicated community servant, passionate supporter of the arts, artist, and member of countless boards and committees who helped showcase local talent and preserve local history.

Tickets for the event are $75 each, and include an array of hors d’ouevres, wine, beer, and non-alcoholic beverages. Live and silent auctions will take place throughout the evening. Sponsorship ads in the event’s electronic journal are being accepted until September 4.
